Smoke gets in your eyes …

… and in your hair, your clothes, even your laundry drying outside! The smoke from bushfires and preventative backburning returned to Sydney today. Here are two shots of the view from my balcony — a normal day, and this morning.

The usual view from my balcony.

  1. Haha, reminds me of some parallel pics I took in Guangzhou (China), except the bottom photo looks like the one that was the “norm”, and the top photo resembles the “freakish conditions” photo. I certainly missed living where clear skies could be taken for granted (thankfully I’m living in Vietnam now, which is miles better than China, but nowhere matches the air back home in Aus)!

I know what you mean about the skies in China — the smoky conditions in Sydney these days remind me very strongly of ‘normal’ days in Beijing.

Whether we get the smoke depends on the wind direction. For us, it’s only an inconvenience, but for people leaving in the bush areas the fires are a real danger.
