You didn’t think you’d get away without a tall ship photo, did you? 😉 This is a small sample of the ropes to be found on a barque-rigged tall ship.
This image is my Day 5 entry in the Black and White 5 Day Challenge. Jude of Travel Words (and other sites, all well worth a visit) has honoured me by inviting me to join in with this challenge.
There are only two rules for this challenge:
- On five consecutive days, create a post using either a past or recent photo in B&W.
- Each day invite another blog friend to join in the fun. This is where it gets tricky for me, as I don’t feel that I know five other bloggers well enough to invite them. So I’m going to twist Rule 2 and make it an open invitation — if you would like to join in, please do!
The challenge has been great fun, and I’ve enjoyed reworking a few photos in black and white. I hope you have enjoyed viewing them, too.
Beautiful!!

You haven’t read enough Patrick O’Brian, Elizabeth ! [grin]

These are not sheets, they are the fore braces, ie, ropes attached to the ends of the yards on the fore mast, which when pulled will turn the yard. Sheets are much heavier and are not coiled on belaying pins like this. BTW I have read all of Patrick O’Brian’s novels.

Now we just have to get you out at sea on a barque-rigged tall ship, heaving on said braces. 😉

Oh aaaarghh ! – I should be seasick, I regret to say. But I do love those books, even though raised on C.S. Forester.

Why thank you Jude, that is a very nice thing to say. Being relatively new to photography, I am still feeling my way. 🙂

Ropes and pins give me a thrill. Lake Michigan is still frozen over but it can’t stay that way forever. Sail on. It’s a good shot, btw.
