St Peters station blanketed in hail.
I heard of graupel only a few days ago, when my mother told me that what she had assumed was hail pounding them in Stratford (the one in Canada, not England) was revealed to be graupel. (Read about it here.) Sydney was blasted with a massive fall of white frozen water today. I’m pretty sure it was standard hail, but the exotic graupel would be much more interesting. I was on a train when the storm hit and managed to snatch a few quick photos when the doors opened at a station.

Close up. Looks like hail to me.

St Peters station blanketed in hail.

Unfortunately it’s the water drops on the window that are in focus, but you can still make out the heaps of white stuff!
We copped some of that last night in Sydney’s greater south west.

No damage, I hope! I wish I had noticed it actually coming down, but I was reading and didn’t look up until the train doors opened and I noticed how suddenly cold the air was. What a shock to look up and see all that white!

No damage for us, I’ve lived through worse hail storms than last nights, although the rain was torrential and the storm lasted for hours.

Torrential is the word! I had no umbrella and was saturated. 😦

Amazed that I was in the Inner West? Me too! But I’m thinking of moving. Love the Eastern Suburbs but can only afford a hovel here. 😦

Ah. Well, it was nonetheless amazing for me to be in that area! I felt like a trespasser. A lost voyager.
