I photographed this bench in Santa Fe more for its lovely curvy shape and the way the light hit it than for any profound words or wit in the message on the small plaque fixed above the middle arm. All it says is “Charles G Stevens”. Perhaps this was a favourite place for him to sit? Or perhaps it is his own personal bench still and the plaque is a way to stake his claim?
In NZ some families put a bench in a loved ones favourite spot as a memorial for them. I always think I would like my ashess scattered somewhere with a marvellous view and a bench placed there rather than a tombstone some where. Hope that doesn&t sound morbid! I think it is a lovely idea 🙂

I think there are a lot of us who fancy a memorial bench, especially one with a view! Some have very interesting quotes / poems / messages too.Much nicer than a tombstone, at least a bench is practical 🙂

I agree totally. And when I sit on one, I always say ‘hello’ to the named person. Seems polite!

Oh yes, and to admire the view. There’s nearly always a view.

I agree, it IS a lovely idea. Perhaps that’s the case here.

Well I am very pleased that the bench had some words on it, else you might not have posted it. What a gorgeous curvy shape.

It would have gone into December’s miscellaneous group, for which I have quite a few bench shots already!

Mmmm.. I am thinking that maybe I need a gallery for the last one! To get in all those that haven’t made the cut so far.

I’m going to need a gallery a week for four weeks, I think! Such as wooden ones taken too late for wooden month, etc.
