The Carlton Hotel, Cannes.
Back to 2008 for this photo. I was living in London, and the weather in August that year was dreadful: wet and grey and cold. On the spur of the moment, and desperate for some sun, I booked a trip to Nice for the bank holiday weekend. What bliss! Sun and blue skies and warmth, and, of course, France. Cannes is only a 30-40 minute train ride from Nice, so I went there too and ogled the rich people, the expensive yachts and the private beaches. I’d heard of the Carlton Hotel in association with the Cannes Film Festival — we’ve all seen photos of film celebrities posing at that hotel! — but was still surprised to see it in the flesh, so to speak.
Travel Memories: a single photo from a trip — one that always makes me smile, or reflect, or want to go back.
The glam set! 🙂 🙂 Doesn’t it look swish? I suppose it’s a good reminder that English summers have always been variable, Karen. I think this has been a good one, but that might only be my distant view. And in the light of Covid the weather almost becomes irrelevant (says she who’s always complaining about being too hot! 🙂 )

You’ve had crazy heatwaves this year! 35C in London?? I know you’re not in London, but it must have been abnormally hot where you are, too. And I don’t think the weather will ever become irrelevant, even in a pandemic. 😉

33/34C here this weekend. It’s great so long as you’re by the beach 🤗🏖️💕

I’m not much of a beach person actually. Too much sand, no shade, far too many children. 😣

How else will I get to play with my bucket and spade? ☹️ Seriously, we avoid them at weekends but I love walking on the beach 💕

Oh walking, yes! And watching the waves crash in. It’s the crowds jammed together on towels, all intent on getting skin cancer, that I can’t stand.

I lived in London for 15 years, and made the most of the opportunity to nip over to Europe for a break. Can’t really do that sort of thing from Sydney, alas …

Something us Brits are very bad at doing. All feels a long way away for us mainland Europe. I know we’re bonkers!

I noticed that when I moved there from Canada. I was used to driving hours to get anywhere, but you lot would grumble at a short hop!

We’re good at grumbling!

That’s because there are far too many cars and lorries on the road which makes travelling any distance a pain in the arse! I love driving, but it is challenging over here. USA, Canada and Australia are wonderful countries to drive in as long as you avoid the big cities!

Yeah, that’s a very good point re traffic. Though I hate car trips, I’d much take the train or fly.

Neither of those appeal right now 😕

Nope, you wouldn’t get me on them either. I’m avoiding pubs, cafes and restaurants, too. Just hunkering down in Fortress Kaz.

Haha… like us then! Although we have been to a few gardens recently, prebooked of course and relatively safe. The nearby wine shop is getting a lot of our custom!

LOL, so is my nearby purveyor of alcohol-containing beverages!

The only Carlton Hotel I have stayed in was in Mumbai and it was nothing like this. This reminds me of the ‘old lady’ hotels in Montreux. Not living near to an airport makes these kind of trips difficult, but spur of the moment ones are always fab!
