Not only are these blue elephants “vivid” in their colour, but they were part of the recent Vivid light festival in Sydney. They were, unsurprisingly, at the zoo. The theme for July Squares is Blue.
For the first time, Sydney’s Royal Botanic Garden has got it on the light festival that is Vivid. It’s “200” sign (marking 200 years of the garden) is looking quite a bit snazzier now than when I first posted about it only one month ago.
Posted as part of January Squares, the theme for which is words ending in light.
Definition of arc: a continuous portion (as of a circle or ellipse) of a curved line (says the Merriam-Webster dictionary) Notice the arcs of light get larger as you move along the circles. This light sculpture is called Circa and was in the botanic gardens during the Vivid light festival this year. This is my […]
This is absolutely one of my most favourite sculptures. You can find it Queen Victoria Gardens, Melbourne. By John Edward Robinson, it’s a sculpture in bronze and dates to 1974. As you can see in the image above, the entire sculpture is balanced on just one foot, which I think is extraordinary. An incredible display […]
Still with the Vivid light festival for this photo, but now in the Royal Botanic Garden rather than Taronga Zoo. The theme for July Squares is Blue.
This certainly looks like a cupcake to me, with its piped border of rich blue icing and a cherry perched atop. In reality, it’s part of the old elephant house at Taronga Zoo in Sydney, seen at night during the Vivid light festival.
These two photos of pedestrians on Martin Place were taken a couple of years ago during the annual Vivid light festival. The long exposure needed for the lights created some interesting motion blur as people passed by!
Another shot from this year’s Vivid Festival of Light. This exhibit was called Cathedral of Light. I like how the phones are held aloft as if they are offerings to whatever god inhabits this cathedral, and how the people’s arms mirror the peaked shape of the exhibit, which you can see on the phone screens.
This is my friend Amanda’s hand silhouetted against one of the exhibits during the Vivid light festival in Sydney. It’s my second (and probably too late) entry in A Photo a Week Challenge: Hands .
