Christmas+Time

Martin Place Christmas Tree and GPO clock

This is a close-up of part of the Christmas Tree in Martin Place, with the clock tower of the old GPO (General Post Office) behind. I took this photo just before 12pm yesterday (Christmas Eve), a glorious summer’s day here in Sydney.

Season’s Greetings to everyone!

Time with You

Still at St Pancras station for this photo. I had to be creative with the interpretation of ‘square’ as I’d already cropped the original but I wanted to include the words “Time with You” for this post. The full wording is “I want my time with you” and it’s a light sculpture by Tracey Emin, unveiled in April 2018.

Aside

The petty pace of time

You know that feeling when the hands of a clock seem stuck?

You know that feeling when the hands of a clock seem stuck?

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way
– Pink Floyd “The Dark Side of The Moon”

You know how it is. You could be at work, or at school or even at home: you have things to do, but they don’t hold your attention. You can’t concentrate. You look at the clock and you can’t believe how little time has passed since the last time you looked. It’s as if the hands of the clock are moving in slow motion, or have stopped altogether. As Shakespeare put it, time “creeps in this petty pace.”

There are so many sayings and quotations about Time that it was difficult to choose only a few for this post, so I limited it to ones I thought I could illustrate with a photo. (To see the words, hover your mouse over an image.)
