Looks good enough to eat.
“White Chocolate” is not, of course, pure white — but let’s not be picky when we’re dealing with something so tasty.

Navy helicopter towing an enormous white ensign
The Australian Navy White Ensign was introduced in 1967, replacing the previous practice of flying the Royal Navy’s White Ensign on Australian Navy vessels.
White ensign and tall ship Lord Nelson
On 4 October 1913, the first Royal Australian Navy fleet entered Sydney Harbour. To commemorate the 100th anniversary of that event, an International Fleet Review was held in Sydney Harbour in October 2013. Ships came from around the world — not only military vessels, but other types. One of those ships was the tall ship Lord Nelson, owned by the Jubilee Sailing Trust and home-ported in Southampton, England. (And now, sadly, retired, leaving the JST with only Tenacious.) I’d been involved with the JST and ‘Nellie’ since 1993, so was thrilled to be aboard once again, although the mixing of my old UK life and my new Aussie life was odd!

One of the bars in City Tattersalls Club, Sydney.
This club was established in 1858, and I wonder what the founders would make of this purple glow in the bar? I find it rather eerie and disquieting, and just plain weird.
Life in Colour is purple for May. Or maybe violet. 🙂
Look at all those lovely hot pink flower buds!
I think this year is going to be rather spectacular for my cactus. It’s had a rough spell, what with being dropped, overwatered and infested with gnats, but now it appears to be very happy indeed. No drooping or pinched-looked leaves, and what looks like a bumper crop of flowers coming. You can see last year’s photos of the open flowers too. I admit the dominant colour in these photos is green, but I think the important colour is pink so will sneak this post into the end of Jude’s month of pink.
Hold the tonic!
“CAN YOU FIND ANY EDIBLE PINKS?” asks Jude. No, but I found some drinkable pinks!
Opened in 1927, and very proudly pink!
This is the Royal Hawaiian Hotel in Honolulu, which is indeed known as the Pink Palace of the Pacific. When Jude asked, “Can you find any pink architecture?”, I had no trouble.
A pink seating area.
Pink umbrellas, pink-striped towels, pink paper napkins under the mai-tais.
I never found out what the very colourful (mostly vibrant pink!) cloth spread out to dry on the ground was. If you peer into the murk, you may just be able to make out another set of hills; and beyond that, up in the sky, you may, if your imagination runs that way, spot some snow-capped peaks. Due to dust, haze and pollution, March/April 2005 did not offer great views for our trek in the Himalayan foothills.
The zucchini had already been cut, so I thought I’d make that a feature.
When Jude asked “What edible greens can you find in your world?” I did a mental inventory of the veggie compartment in my fridge. One zucchini (or courgette, if you prefer) and one cucumber was the grand total; not even a lime! I must admit I quite like the feature photo, which reminds me of the side of a whale that’s been battered and scarred in some rough encounters. (okay, a green whale)
Zucchini: a wider view of the feature photo.
Cucumber (but you knew that, didn’t you?) Bonus greens of anthurium leaf in foreground, and tree in background.
(And, woo hoo!, some experimentation and some tips from helpful followers revealed that clicking on the number of posts under ‘At a Glance’ in my dashboard will take me to the old Posts page, where the dropdown choice of Block and Classic for Add New still exists. Happy day. 🙂 Take that, evil block editor!! )
Well, that’s what Jude said! “This week’s assignment – Choose a colour. Any colour, it could be your favourite one.” Orange is definitely not my favourite colour (that’d be blue) but Jude’s assignment this week is to “Allow only variations of the colour within your photograph.” I’ve gone for orange because I have a cheerful bouquet of poppies on my table right now, largely orange, and I thought they’d make a nice photo. Then the hunt was on for other orange photos! The bristles I also photographed today, but the rest are archives.
On the Hunt for Joy Challenge: Week 11 – Color Code
When I came across Cee’s challenge, I thought “aha, I’ll do a selection of photos of each colour in the spectrum!” Well. That little brainstorm took a lot longer than I expected and at times I didn’t feel particularly joyful. I’m still not convinced I’ve got my head around indigo vs violet! But I quite like the results.
Here we go: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet. (If you’re viewing on a computer, hover your mouse and you’ll see a small caption about each photo.)
